As a student of UC Berkeley Extension, you are held to the same high standards as those attending UC Berkeley. Here's some items to keep you informed.
As a student of UC Berkeley Extension, you are encouraged to reach out to your fellow students in the classroom to avoid isolation, to discuss materials, and to ask each other questions; however, there are limits to this collaboration. We do not allow:
- Altering academic documents or transcripts
- Gaining access to materials before they are intended to be available
- Helping another student to gain an unfair academic advantage
If you are taking an online course, your instructor may opt to use Turnitin service to check your assignment for originality and help improve your writing and citation process.

Sexual harassment and violence are prohibited both by law and by University of California policy. Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances; requests for sexual favors; and other verbal, nonverbal or physical contact of a sexual nature. Sexual harassment includes conduct that explicitly or implicitly affects a person's employment or education or interferes with a person's work or educational performance or creates an environment such that a reasonable person would find the conduct intimidating, hostile or offensive. Sexual harassment includes sexual violence.

You may want to record (via handwritten, audio or video) lectures and other classroom presentations to help you better understand the material. You can share these recordings with your fellow students for things such as group projects or group studying. If you record a presentation, you must get approval from your instructor and fellow classmates to protect their privacy. Also, you cannot provide, sell or otherwise distribute to others any recordings you make without written consent from the instructor/presenter and the University Chancellor. The University of California, Berkeley, is a tobacco-free campus. You cannot use tobacco, smokeless tobacco or unregulated nicotine products (i.e., e-cigarettes) in indoor and outdoor spaces owned or leased by UC Berkeley. Anyone found violating this policy will be asked to cease the activity immediately.
You may be eligible for tax credits through the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. To determine eligibility, contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a tax consultant or an accountant. Through the Tax Credit Reporting Service (TCRS), you will receive an electronic IRS Form 1098-T Tuition Statement to help you determine if you are eligible for an educational tax credit and/or deduction. We will send you a Form 1098-T by Jan. 31 if you had at least one reportable transaction (such as a tuition payment or a program application/registration fee) during the calendar year.
If you do not receive a Form 1098-T notification by email by Jan. 31, log in to www.1098t.com with your ITIN, SSN or student ID to retrieve your Form 1098-T. See step-by-step instructions on how to download your Form 1098-T from the TCRS website.

The IRS requires all educational institutions to request students to provide a Social Security Number (SSN) or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN); log in to your student account to review or update this information under My Profile by the end of the calendar year.
