Program Benefits

  • Industry-led instruction: Each course is taught by experienced professionals who bring real-world expertise into the classroom.
  • Flexible timeline: Complete the program in as little as one year (taking two classes per semester) or up to three years.
  • Online, evening classes for working professionals: Attend Live Online class meetings remotely via Zoom. Engage with your instructor and classmates through lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, collaborative activities and more.
  • Choose electives to fit your career goals: Options include an introductory course for career changers, business negotiation, management, construction materials and methods, and field management and safety.
  • No tuition per semester. Only pay course fees for the classes that you enroll in for the upcoming semester.
  • UC Excelerator scholarship: Courses in this program are eligible for the Career Excelerator Award. Learn more about this opportunity.

Prerequisites

Previous experience in the construction industry or a related field is highly recommended.

Curriculum Requirements

The curriculum consists of 3 required courses and 2 elective courses for a total of 10 semester units (150 hours of instruction). Candidates must pay a nonrefundable program registration fee and complete the requirements outlined below to earn the optional Award of Completion.

We strongly suggest starting with Introduction to Management in the Construction Industry if you do not have experience interpreting construction documents (drawings, specifications, contracts or schedules). The rest of the courses can be completed in any order.

    • Fundamentals of Construction Law
    • Construction Cost Estimating
    • Introduction to Management in the Construction Industry
    • Field Project Management & Safety
    • Construction Methods, Materials & Systems
    • Negotiation Unlocked: Strategy, Tactics & Conflict Resolution
    • Organization and Management
    • Take all credit course requirements for a letter grade;
    • Earn a grade of C or better for each course in the program;
    • Complete all coursework within three years.

How to Register

Candidates must pay a nonrefundable program registration fee. By registering, you declare your intention to complete the curriculum. To register online, complete these two steps:

  • Submit the online registration, and complete your student account if you are a new student.
  • Pay the nonrefundable $200 registration fee through your shopping cart.

Please allow 3–5 business days for the program to appear in your student account.

Once you've registered, you'll be invited to join the Professional Program in Construction Management Resource Site.

Estimated Cost

Each course is priced individually, and you pay the course fee at the time of enrollment. The certificate has an estimated cost of $5,425 (not including course materials). Course fees are subject to change.

Certificate and Award Request

Once you have registered for the program and completed the coursework, email us at extension-techeng@berkeley.edu and let us know that you have completed the curriculum and are requesting your Award of Completion. After your records have been reviewed, verified and approved (usually within two to three weeks), your Award of Completion will be mailed to you.
