There are nearly 28 million small businesses thriving in the United States today. And the market for owner-operated businesses is far from saturation, allowing for new ventures to emerge in a competitive landscape.


There are no prerequisites for this program.

Curriculum Requirements

The curriculum comprises 4 required courses (6 semester units) for a total of 93 hours. Candidates must pay a nonrefundable program registration fee.

All courses must be taken for a letter grade. To receive the certificate, you must maintain an overall minimum 2.5 grade point average, with a grade of C or better in each course. All coursework must be completed within three years of registering for the program.

Estimated Cost

Each course is priced individually, and you pay the course fee at the time of enrollment. The program has an estimated total cost of $3,400 (not including textbooks, course materials or registration fee). Course fees are subject to change.

Certificate and Award Request

Once you have completed the program coursework, notify UC Berkeley Extension that you have completed the curriculum and request your certificate. Send an email to or call (510) 642-4231. After your records have been reviewed, verified and approved (usually within two to three weeks), your Award of Completion will be mailed to you.
