Certificate Program in Business Analysis

Note: Effective March 1, 2018, requirements have changed to complete the certificate: There are now 5 required courses, instead of 4. If you have completed Business Analysis Planning and Methods BUS ADM X448.1 by March 15, 2018, these new requirements do not apply to you. If you have questions or need further guidance, please call (510) 642-4231 or email the department at extension-business@berkeley.edu.

There are no formal requirements for Business Analysis. However, it is strongly recommended that you have at least an undergraduate degree, four years of professional experience and familiarity with business operations. If you intend to sit for the CBAP® exam, you must also meet the requirements of the IIBA® in order to take the exam. Find out more about the CBAP® exam requirements.

You should also be aware of the PMI-PBA certificate requirements if you want to pursue that certification.

Curriculum Requirements

Start the certificate by enrolling in Business Analysis Fundamentals BUS ADM X423.8 and then complete the four remaining courses:

If you have already started the certificate and completed Business Analysis Planning and Methods BUS ADM X448.1 with a letter grade of C or better, you can complete the program without taking Business Analysis Fundamentals; just complete Requirements Identification and Management, Business Solution Development and Delivery and Business Solution Evaluation and Validation. These courses have the same course numbers as before, but the names of the courses have changed.

To receive the certificate, new students need to register and complete all five required online-only courses.

All certificate courses have fixed start and end dates, with assignments and project work assigned throughout the course. Course content can be consumed asynchronously; there is no live content associated with the courses. This enables you to work at anytime from anywhere with network connectivity.

Courses are scheduled continuously so you can begin the program at any time and take the next class with minimal wait time. Check the start dates for the courses and enroll as early as possible to avoid waitlists and delays at the start of a class. Most students complete the program in 12 to 18 months.

Students must take all courses for a letter grade and maintain an overall minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA), with a grade of C or better in each course. A Certificate With Distinction will be awarded to those who complete the certificate with a GPA of 4.0 (effective to those who register beginning March 1, 2018).

You must pay a nonrefundable registration fee in order to register for the certificate. All coursework must be completed within five years of registering for the certificate.
