Get an overview of concepts and principles of rehabilitation and recovery for those with severe mental illness. Examine the evidence base for recovery (longitudinal studies, controlled studies and case studies), as well as some major currently identified evidence-based practices (social skills training, wellness recovery action plans, illness management and cognitive rehabilitation) that have been found useful in mental-illness rehabilitation. The curriculum includes case materials and real-world examples. This course is intended for mental health clinicians, social service professionals, occupational therapists, nurses and others working with those with severe mental illness.
Learner Outcomes
After attending this workshop, you should be able to:
- Articulate the concept and meaning of recovery in severe mental illness
- Describe the evidence base for recovery in severe mental illness
- Show familiarity with some evidence-based practices used in the rehabilitation of those with severe mental illnesses
- Provide some references from the popular and professional literature showing examples of recovery from severe mental illness
- Demonstrate ability to develop a basic recovery plan based on evidence-based practices and skills-building interventions
