Learn skills to better serve African-American clients. In this one-day workshop, you explore clinical cases through a culturally sensitive lens and also critically examine a range of intervention strategies that can improve treatment outcomes for African-American clients and their families. You should bring in a case so that classmates and the instructor can discuss treatment planning and case formulation approaches.
Learner Outcomes
At the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Enhance your intervention skills and expand ability to work with African-American clients
- Understand the components of culturally competent assessments
- Gain insights into treatment planning using a clinical case study approach
- Understand the barriers to psychotherapy treatment for African-American clients
- Improve skills in building rapport and fostering positive treatment outcomes
- Enhance your knowledge on the role of religion in the African-American community and how to incorporate in treatment when appropriate
