In this workshop, you get an introduction to the conceptual, legal/ethical and diversity issues surrounding clinical supervision, with an emphasis on existing models of supervision and the research base for more effective supervision. Supervision is a distinct professional activity that ensures competency in client care and contributes to the education and training of mental health providers. Although mental health clinicians are increasingly called upon to provide supervision to trainees, few trainings focus specifically on fostering these skills. The curriculum uses case vignettes and experiential learning to highlight important principles that enhance the supervisory relationship.
Learner Outcomes
Upon completion of this workshop, you should be able to:
- Understand evidence-based supervisory competencies
- Develop an appropriate supervisory alliance
- Create and deliver appropriate formative and summative feedback
- Identify and appropriately manage ethical, legal and cultural dimensions of supervision
- Incorporate research on supervision into practice
