Berkeley Global
This workshop is designed for health-care advocates and allied health professionals who work directly with older adults. You review some of the latest products and technology that may keep seniors safely at home, as well as additional care options and services currently available. You also cover some of the major issues, hard decisions and ethical challenges faced by families, clinicians and health-care practitioners who care for and about the elderly, including a look at the increased emphasis in recent years on aging in place and dying at home. This workshop also includes a review of different types of dementia, including practical strategies for increasing communication with people suffering from this disease.
Learner Outcomes
In this seminar, you will gain an understanding of:
- New technology, products and services being marketed to older adults and their families to assist with keeping them safe.
- Care options and funding sources currently available for seniors who can/want to remain at home vs. those who want to/have to relocate to a higher level of care.
- The ethical, legal and financial challenges faced by healthcare professionals who work with and advocate for the geriatric population.
- The pathology, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia as well as strategies for increasing communication and decreasing anxiety in this population.
