Color is one of the most powerful, useful and expressive tools for designing compelling interior spaces. Review the color-based theories of Albert Munsell, Johannes Itten and Josef Albers. Learn how to change the value and intensity of colors using paint. Understand how light transforms color. Two-dimensional exercises teach you to apply theory to using color in interior space.

  • Compare and contrast hue, value and saturation
  • Discuss the history of color theory and movements
  • Apply the concepts of unity, variety, contrast, dominance, balance and harmony to designs
  • Compare and contrast additive and subtractive color theory
  • See how lighting and surroundings affect color
  • Distinguish the relative aspects of color perception as they apply to design and lighting
  • Understand how color used as symbol, as expression and as decoration
  • Identify and define how color is applied to different materials used in the industry
