Berkeley Global
Writing for magazines can be exciting, satisfying, and profitable. Whether your goal is to publish a news feature, in-depth personality profile, short story, personal essay or blog article, this information-packed workshop helps you get started while expanding your skill at getting published. During the first half, the instructor draws upon 20-plus years of magazine writing experience to share insider tips on targeting different publications, writing persuasive query letters and approaching editors.
In the second half, you get feedback on short pieces that you are invited to submit ahead of time. Submissions should be 300?500 words. Acceptable formats include essays, short articles, or the first page or two of a longer work (deadline to submit is one week before workshop date.) Work brought on the day of the workshop is discussed if time permits.
For more details about how to submit your essay for review, please contact the Writing Program: letters-unex@berkeley.edu or (510) 642-6362.
