Get an introduction to the relationship between trauma and resilience through a range of neurobiological, psychological and psychosocial approaches. You examine trauma through the lens of current trauma researchers (e.g., Bessel Van Der Kolk, Judith Herman, Jack Saul and Peter Levine) and review findings on what happens to the brain following repeated trauma. In class, you discuss therapies that have been shown to be effective in treating trauma and also examine how resilience and other protective factors can aid someone in developing their own resilience tool kit to protect against PTSD and other disorders.
