Substance abuse can prevent a teenager or young adult from launching successfully into adulthood. Learn to effectively assist young people and their families into the next phase of life. Study the etiology, prevention and treatment of substance abuse, with particular emphasis on marijuana.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Detail adolescent and young adult brain development and vulnerability to substance abuse
- Review criteria for determining adolescent substance use, abuse and addiction, and the impact of addiction—with a focus on marijuana
- Explain treatment planning based on the developmental model of recovery and stages of change
- Describe multimodal treatment interventions for young people, families and collateral systems
- Cite treatment considerations for teens, families, peers, legal systems and schools
