People who have experienced trauma as a result of community violence, particularly those who have experienced trauma in their own household, often have difficulties forming meaningful and healthy relationships with others. The course curriculum focuses on helping you understand the dynamics of those who have been targets of, witnessed or participated in community or familial violence. You then examine trust-building strategies to effectively treat this population, and learn to set healthy boundaries during the counseling process.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Understand family and community dynamics relating to trauma
- Apply trust building in relationships with victims of community violence
- Articulate the steps of maintaining clear boundaries with victims of community violence
- Understand the journey from victim to perpetrator as a victim of community violence
