Get an overview of the methods used in medical art therapy with supportive information from modern mind-body and trauma healing literature. Medical art therapy has developed adjunctive art and imagery processes for pain reduction and symptom relief for people suffering from acute and chronic illnesses and trauma. Understand treatment strategies through case studies of imagery produced by children and adults healing from cancer, lung and heart disease, arthritis, chronic migraines, brain injuries and disorders, eating disorders, trauma, and comorbid depression and anxiety disorders. Through hands-on experience, you learn the developmental and clinical dynamics of using art media. You produce your own art-imagery series of drawings, paintings, collage and sculpture. You are encouraged to bring your own case(s) in for consultation with other students. Wear comfortable clothes for art making.
