Berkeley Global
This course is tailored for undergraduate international students who plan to apply for graduate/professional school in the United States in the next 2 years. Over an 8-session intensive format, students will be equipped with essential information and resources. These will aid them in making informed decisions about pursuing graduate studies, selecting the appropriate degree types, navigating the application process, responding to admissions offers, and understanding financial options. Additionally, the course encourages students to introspect about their motivations for pursuing further education and to evaluate how their chosen programs align with their long-term goals.
Prerequisites: Undergraduate international students who plan to apply for graduate/professional school in the next 2 years. Must have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate studies.
Learner Outcomes
1. Self-Assessment & Reflection – Students will engage in self-assessment to identify their personal interests, values, skills, and personality traits. This reflection will
guide them in selecting graduate programs that align with their academic and professional aspirations.
2. Understanding the Graduate School Application Process – Students will gain a thorough understanding of the graduate school admissions process, including the
criteria and standards employed by admissions committees to evaluate applications.
3. Accessing Graduate School Application Resources – Students will learn to navigate and utilize a variety of resources to explore potential career paths and
gather relevant occupational data. This will include accessing online databases, engaging with professional publications, and conducting informational interviews and observations.
4. Mastering US Graduate School Writing Expectations – Students will develop advanced writing skills necessary to articulate their motivations and readiness for
graduate studies effectively. This objective covers crafting tailored essays that reflect their unique backgrounds and learning revision techniques to refine their submissions as per specific institutional requirements.
5. Developing Timeline and Organizational Skills – Students will learn to construct and manage personalized timelines, employing advanced organizational strategies
to ensure timely completion of their application milestones.
6. Enhancing Networking & Interviewing Skills – Students will practice networking with various stakeholders in the graduate school community, including admissions
officers, current students, alumni, and faculty. Additionally, they will acquire skills to excel in interviews, presenting themselves professionally and persuasively.
