You can take our FinTech, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, or International Marketing core course in our Live Online format, which combines the interactivity of the classroom with the convenience of digital learning.

Replicating the in-class experience, the Live Online format fosters community and interaction with peers and Haas professors. Group projects allow for real-world application of concepts, while career advising and workshops help you navigate exciting industries.

View recorded lectures before attending the live class so you can learn theory and frameworks at your own pace. Then, attend online sessions with your professor and classmates to collaborate, apply the course material and engage in discussions.

Opportunity Recognition: Technology and Entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley

MBA XB295C (3 units)

Gain the core skills needed to identify opportunities that can lead to successful, entrepreneurial high-technology ventures, regardless of your "home" skill set (technical or managerial). Take an in-depth examination of the most successful approaches for entrepreneurial companies as a function of markets and technologies. Emphasis is placed on the special requirements for creating and executing strategy in a setting of rapid technological change and limited resources. This course is particularly suited for those who anticipate founding or operating technology companies.

Undergraduates who receive an A or higher will have the graduate requirement waived to take The Business of AI (MBA XB267) in Fall 2021.

Details

You take this course in the fall and/or spring term. The course lasts 15 weeks and comprises 3 hours of lecture per week. You take a final exam to earn a letter grade.

Andrew Isaacs is a successful scientist, business executive, entrepreneur and educator and has a strong track record of helping young entrepreneurs launch their careers. Andrew has worked at the crossroads of advanced technology and business innovation for 25 years.

FinTech

MBA XB237 (3 units)

Changes in technology—such as universal Internet access, dramatic advances in cryptography and a mobile phone in every pocket—have changed how the financial industry operates. In this course, you will learn the basics of the payment system and how it is changing. You will examine how other stores of value embedded in mobile technology are used around the world, in both high-income and low-income countries. The course will also touch on changes in other financial sectors, including advice, banking and insurance. Finally, you will investigate the potential of cryptocurrencies and the possibilities for disruption inherent in an open, consensus ledger (such as Blockchain).

Undergraduates who receive an A or higher will have the graduate requirement waived to take Blockchain and the Future of Technology, Business and Law (MBA XB296) in Fall 2021.

Negotiation and Conflict Resolution

UGBA XB152 (3 units)

Learn theory and processes in order to solve various negotiation problems commonly faced by managers and professionals. Develop your negotiation skills through simulations, case studies and the like.

Instructor Holly Schroth

Holly Schroth is a senior lecturer at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Management of Organizations Program, where she specializes in the areas of negotiation and organizational behavior. She has been a senior lecturer at Haas since 1992, and has also won several awards, including a Distinguished Teaching Fellow.

International Marketing

UGBA XB168B (3 units)

Understand the frameworks and sensitivities to formulate and implement marketing strategies in order to compete worldwide. Study issues such as global versus local advertising, pricing strategies, strategic international alliances and distribution channels, managing international brands and product lines, retailing, and marketing organization and control.

Professor Wasim Azhar

Professor Wasim Azhar has been with UC Berkeley Haas School of Business since 2005. He is currently the Director at the Center for Teaching Excellence at Haas and a lecturer. Wasim is also a partner, Director and CMO at Amzone LLC and a member of the Board of Directors at Global Equity Partners.

Program Structure

Attend scheduled online sessions with your instructor and classmates where you participate in engaging lectures, and collaborate and apply the course material in discussions and breakout sessions. Instructors deliver course content in interactive video-conference sessions that are thoughtfully designed and executed. This adds community and engagement with your instructor and classmates while you work on assignments and other course work.

Engage in active learning through the use of collaborative tools such as:

Breakout rooms with classmates to dig deeper into the course content or work on a group project.
Online whiteboards that allow you to visualize the material in the same way as an in-person class.
