The U.S. Department of Labor forecasts over a half-million job openings in the next decade in the health and helping professions—counseling, psychotherapy, social work, clinical psychology, psychiatric nursing, and health education. The Post-Baccalaureate Program for Counseling and Psychology Professions is ideal if you are a career changer who needs to complete undergraduate course prerequisites or if you want to become more competitive for graduate or professional school in counseling and psychology. Designed for career changers with bachelor's degrees, the curriculum consists of a range of upper-division psychology courses that are required or strongly recommended by graduate and professional schools in social work, counseling, and psychology. *Abnormal Psychology X146, Introduction to Developmental Psychology X140, Research Methods in Psychology X106, and Psychology of Personality X176 may be substituted with another psychology course if you have taken an equivalent course from an accredited college or university. Course substitutions must be approved by the program director in advance.

This program is ideal if you have a bachelor's degree in a field other than psychology and want to change careers or if you want to become more competitive for graduate and professional programs in psychology, mental health, or counseling. This program helps you complete some or all of your undergraduate prerequisites.

Prerequisites for Admission

A bachelor's degree is required for the Post-Baccalaureate Program for Counseling and Psychology Professions.

Curriculum Requirements

The curriculum comprises 6 required courses for a total of 12 semester units and 2.4 ceu (204 hours of instruction). Candidates must pay a nonrefundable program registration fee.

All coursework must be completed within three years of registering for the program. However, requirements may be updated based on new developments in the field of study; we recommend completing the curriculum in a timely fashion. Please contact the program office upon completion of the program to request your certificate of completion.

How to Register for This Specialized Program of Study

To apply to the Post-Baccalaureate Program for Counseling and Psychology Professions, you must submit the following:

  1. The online registration form with your credit card information, or complete the mail-in registration form. The registration fee is nonrefundable.
  2. An official, sealed transcript from an accredited undergraduate institution verifying that you earned a baccalaureate degree.

Estimated Cost

Each course is priced individually, and you pay the course fee at the time of enrollment. The program has an estimated cost of $3,000 (not including course materials or registration fee). Course fees are subject to change.
