UC Berkeley Extension—What We Offer

UC Berkeley Extension is a school within the vibrant UC Berkeley campus and offers a wide range of programs that bring international students to Berkeley—home to the Number 1 public university in the United States (U.S. News and World Report). Although we do not offer programs that allow students to transfer to UC Berkeley, our short-term study options provide the same quality education and access to knowledge from leading experts in their fields as on campus. High school through graduate-level students as well as working professionals may choose to take part in:

  • a university preparation course
  • a semester or academic year taking UC Berkeley courses
  • certificate programs for working professionals looking to build their career and professional skills

Internships and opportunities to apply for optional practical training (OPT) work authorization are available for certain programs.

UC Berkeley Extension—like all other UC Berkeley schools, colleges and departments—is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Why Become a Partner?

  1. Collaboration

As a UC Berkeley Extension partner, you have a central role in the admissions process. As our educational partner, you can establish additional admissions criteria beyond the program's requirements and pre-screen applicants to meet any special qualifications necessary at your institution. Final admissions decisions are made by UC Berkeley Extension while working closely with your school to ensure students meet all required qualifications.

  2. Customization

UC Berkeley Extension international programs can be customized to meet specialized training needs for schools, universities and other groups. Custom programs may range from one day to one year, and may be held on campus at UC Berkeley, in our UC Berkeley Extension facilities in Berkeley or San Francisco, or on-site in your home country. Customized programs may focus on specific academic themes or include additional activities, such as:

    • Visits to Silicon Valley companies or other Bay Area universities
    • Leadership development and service-learning projects
    • Guest speakers and presenters
    • Professional development or career-coaching activities
    • Undergraduate or graduate school admissions workshops
    • Volunteer or internship opportunities
    • Group meals
    • Cultural trips around California
    • Other elements to supplement the student experience

As a partner, you may also reserve seats in programs specifically for your students. You have the option to send students to our existing programs or an existing program at your university—or develop a brand-new program with us!

  1. Campus Connections

Partnering with us opens doors for you to develop additional partnerships with UC Berkeley. We encourage campus visits and assist in arranging meetings for you to connect with campus departments and staff.
