You will take 9–11 units of Berkeley Haas Business courses from the course offerings below and 3 units from the UC Berkeley course catalog for a total of 12–15 units per semester.

This course is a combination of class time, one-on-one coaching sessions and company site visits. Class time focuses on three aspects of your learning: excelling as a Haas student; identifying your professional path forward; and enhancing your personal and professional development. One-on-one coaching provides highly individualized support to discuss your own topics of interest, ranging from applying to graduate school, to clarifying how to bring together your strengths and interests to launch or enhance your career.

Introduction to Entrepreneurship

UGBA XB196 (3 units)

Explore the structure and framework of entrepreneurial endeavors—both inside and outside of the business world. Learn the answers to such questions as: What is entrepreneurship? What is opportunity recognition and selection? How can you create and define competitive advantage? At the end of the course, you will understand the entrepreneurial business process and how you can become involved in those processes in your future career.

Negotiation and Conflict Resolution

EWMBA XB252 (3 units)

Understand the theory and processes of negotiation so that you can negotiate successfully in a variety of settings. You'll learn about a broad spectrum of negotiation problems that are faced by managers and professionals in order to get their solutions accepted and implemented. Throughout the course, you will develop these skills experientially and place negotiation in useful analytical frameworks.

Blockchain and the Future of Technology, Business and Law

Blockchain is one of the most significant technologies to impact technology and business in many years. It is also one of the most interdisciplinary areas, bringing together new questions and opportunities at the intersection of technology, business and law. Gain an overview of the technology behind blockchain and explore current and potential real-world applications.

Opportunity Recognition: Technology and Entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley

Gain the core skills needed to identify opportunities that can lead to successful, entrepreneurial high-technology ventures, regardless of your "home" skill set (technical or managerial). Take an in-depth examination of the most successful approaches for entrepreneurial companies as a function of markets and technologies. Emphasis is placed on the special requirements for creating and executing strategy in a setting of rapid technological change and limited resources. This course is particularly suited for those who anticipate founding or operating technology companies.

High-Technology Marketing Management

High technology refers to that class of products and services that are subject to technological change at a pace significantly faster than for most goods in the economy. Under such circumstances, the marketing task faced by the high-technology firm differs in some ways from the usual. You'll explore these differences.

Pricing

MBA XB269 (3 units)

Learn proven concepts, techniques and frameworks to assess and formulate pricing strategies. Develop the economics and behavioral foundations of pricing. Then, discuss several innovative pricing concepts including price customization, nonlinear pricing, price matching and product line pricing. Finally, you will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of several Internet-based, buyer-determined pricing models.

Leadership Communications

UGBA XB191L (1 unit)

Today's organizations demand leaders who communicate well. Leaders who communicate well are far more effective in their organizations and in their communities. Leaders also need to communicate persuasively–inspiring others, creating cooperation among those who work with them, advocating ideas and proposals within their organizations, and delivering the organizational message to those outside of the organization. This workshop gives you the fundamental skills in authenticity, persuasion and advocacy in order to connect with others and present in today's business environment. You will deliver one PowerPoint presentation and three speeches (both impromptu and prepared), and complete a final project.

The Business of AI

From self-driving cars to humanoid robots, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way we live, work and do business. In this class, get an introduction to AI technology and its many business applications. You will walk away with a foundational understanding of AI and its near- and long-term applications; explore the myths and realities surrounding the technology; and delve into the legal, social and policy implications of AI.

IP for Entrepreneurs

UGBA 190T (3 units)

Learn how tech entrepreneurs can best develop and manage intellectual property (IP) assets and integrate them into a successful business. You will learn about the different types of IP (copyright, trademark, patents and trade secrets) and then discuss their uses in technology companies. You also learn best practices for developing, protecting, licensing and enforcing IP rights. Discuss the pros and cons of using open-source software and how angel and venture capital investors view IP.

Changing Climate and Business Strategy

New Venture Finance

MBA XB236V (3 units)

This is a course for current/future entrepreneurs on how to finance and fund a startup or high-growth business. The course centers on a model that includes strategic planning, financial analysis, business model creation, cash management, funding alternatives, investor pitching, alternative financing, and exit strategies. We examine the various options that a company has for financing at all stages of its life-cycle—from seed stage to later stage—using a blend of lectures, cases, readings and speakers (venture capitalists, CEO/founders, industry experts and service providers) to address the full range of financing options including angel, venture capital, debt financing, corporate/strategic investment and public markets.

Entrepreneurship Workshop for Startups

MBA XB295I (4 units)

This workshop is intended for you if you have an experimental venture project under development. The business concept may be in the startup mode or further along in its evolution. In this workshop, you will often work in teams to undertake the real challenges of building a venture.

Data Science Applications in Finance

MBA XB296 (3 units)

The vast proliferation of data—combined with increasing technological advances and massive changes in regulation—is transforming the competitive landscape of various industries. Learn how these forces are driving changes in finance and accounting, and how to make sense of their future implications. Study how technology impacts finance and accounting, with an emphasis on data analytics. Begin by identifying critical business problems that need to be solved, and then work backward to see how finance and accounting analytics can help.

Sustainability in the Nordics

UGBA XB192T (1 unit)

The world faces big problems. Climate change, poverty, health and wellbeing, gender equality, decent work, clean water, growing inequalities and threats to democratic institutions are a few of the many interconnected sustainability challenges articulated by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the face of these big problems, Nordic countries and companies can provide inspiration as they are frequently cited as global sustainability leaders topping most sustainability performance metrics.

In this course, deeply explore sustainability and social responsibility in the Nordics and consider what learnings may be prosperously applied in the U.S. context. Consider the very nature of capitalism and compare and contrast "Nordic Capitalism" with "American Capitalism" while exploring the sustainability ramifications of the differing approaches. Through this, you discuss how we can build resilient and sustainable societies.

Leading People

Take a descriptive and analytical study of organizations from a behavioral science point of view, which includes problems of motivation, leadership, morale, social structure, groups, communications, hierarchy and control in complex organizations. You also consider the interaction among technology, environment and human behavior. Discuss alternate theoretical models and their applications.
