Please note: Effective April 6, 2026, the Certificate Program in Personal Financial Planning will no longer accept registrations. You must register for the certificate by Sunday, April 5, 2026, if you wish to fulfill the current curriculum requirements. If you are already registered for the certificate program, you can continue to enroll in courses to fulfill curriculum requirements. After April 5, 2026, students who would like to complete the program should register for the new Professional Program in Personal Financial Planning.
UC Berkeley Extension's Certificate Program in Personal Financial Planning provides an academic path to the financial planning profession. Through the curriculum, you learn to analyze and advise in all core areas of personal financial planning. Students who register for and complete this certificate are eligible to take the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification examination.
The curriculum is overseen by an advisory board of investment, financial planning and education leaders and taught by working professionals with many years of practical experience in financial services.

Applications are now open for the Certificate Program in Personal Financial Planning Scholarship! This award is designed to support students who are looking to pursue a rewarding career as a financial adviser. Don't miss the chance to offset your educational costs and join the next generation of industry leaders.
If approved, this award will cover the cost of two course fees for the terms indicated (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027). The evaluative criteria for this award include academic and professional history and academic and professional intent. This award is intended for individuals residing in the United States. For international students, please visit our International Programs page for eligible offerings.
To be eligible for this award, applicants must be currently registered in the Certificate Program in Personal Financial Planning. While a bachelor's degree is highly recommended for all applicants, please be advised that a completed bachelor's degree is required to sit for the CFP® certification exam.
