  2. Course 2: Introduction to SQL
  3. Course 3: Python for Data Analysis or R for Data Analysis
  4. Course 4: Data Visualization
  5. Course 5: Data Analytics Capstone (recommended)

I am familiar with using spreadsheets for data analysis and basic SQL and am interested in learning to manage and analyze more data:

  1. Course 1: Python for Data Analysis or R for Data Analysis
  2. Course 2: Introduction to Databases
  3. Course 3: Data Mining Using SQL or Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence
  4. Course 4: Data Visualization
  5. Course 5: Data Analytics Capstone (recommended)

Email the department at extension-techeng@berkeley.edu with help in customizing your own academic journey to meet your professional career needs.

Create Your Professional Portfolio With a Capstone

Person in an office building holding a tablet device.

Put lessons learned into practice with the optional capstone course. Over the course of 15 weeks, you create your own data analytics project that centers on a real-world problem. Each week, you demonstrate your knowledge of data analytics methods and techniques by planning, exploring, analyzing, interpreting and presenting your findings. Through collaboration and problem-solving with the instructor and fellow classmates, you build a professional portfolio through "hands-on" applied and experiential knowledge.

At the end of this recommended class, you will have written a data analytics report and presented it to the class—just as you would on the job!

Take advantage of this exclusive opportunity to make your résumé stand out.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: College level coursework in statistics or equivalent experience.

Curriculum Requirements

This program comprises 4 required courses. You must take one 2-unit course in each category—SQL and Databases, Visualization, and Analytics—and complete a fourth course in any category for a total of 8 semester units. The capstone course is encouraged, but not required.

To receive the Award of Completion, you must complete each course with a grade of C or better. Students must take all courses for a letter grade. All coursework must be completed within three years. Candidates must pay a nonrefundable program registration fee.

How to Register

By registering, you declare your intention to complete the curriculum. To register online for the Professional Program in Data Analysis, complete these two steps:

  1. Submit the online registration, and complete your student account profile if you are a new student.
  2. Pay the nonrefundable registration fee through your shopping cart.

We recommend that you register after completing your first course in the curriculum.

Please allow 3–5 business days for the registration to appear in your student account.

Estimated Cost

Each course is priced individually, and you pay the course fee at the time of enrollment. The program has an estimated cost of $4,000 (not including course materials or registration fee). Course fees are subject to change.

Certificate and Award Request

Once you have completed the program coursework, notify UC Berkeley Extension that you have completed the curriculum and request your Award of Completion. Send an email to extension-techeng@berkeley.edu. After your records have been reviewed, verified and approved (usually within two to three weeks), your Award of Completion will be mailed to you.
