Berkeley Global
Gain real-world experience in creating a literary journal. You and the other editors select the writing and artwork to be included in this print publication, and learn how to work with authors and artists to refine and polish their work for publication.
Course curriculum comprises three primary phases:
Content
Learn how to evaluate work with the eye of an editor and a reader, how to query authors, how to revise the work of contributors to improve quality and concision and comply with Ursa Minor style guidelines.
Assembly
Focus on the sequencing and overall flow of content, typography and layout, cover design, and the design of front- and back-matter pages including the letter from the editors, acknowledgements, table of contents and biographies of contributors.
Production
Oversee the delivery of the manuscript to the copyeditor, the publication designer and, ultimately, the printer. Once printed, you then assist with the promotion and distribution of the journal as well the planning of a publication launch and readings at local bookstores.
