Prerequisites

Applicants must provide evidence of their Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential or master's degree in counseling. If you do not have a background in counseling and are still interested in this field, please visit the Certificate Program in College Admissions and Career Planning.

Curriculum Requirements

The curriculum consists of 2 required courses for a total of 8 semester units (120 hours of instruction). Candidates must pay a nonrefundable program registration fee.

You must take all courses for a letter grade. To receive the Award of Completion, you must maintain an overall minimum 3.0 grade point average, with a grade of B or better in each course. All coursework must be completed within three years.

How to Register

By registering, you declare your intention to complete the curriculum. To register for the Professional Program in College Admission Counseling, complete these three steps:

  1. Participation in this program requires verification of your PPS credential or a master’s degree in counseling or social work. No other master’s degrees qualify. Prior to completing the second course in the curriculum, submit your official master’s transcript or official verification of your degree or credential to our office. Official e-transcripts or evidence of a PPS credential should be emailed to extension-education@berkeley.edu. We cannot accept forwarded PDFs from students. The Education Department must be the direct recipient of official transcripts.
  2. Email the Education Department at extension-education@berkeley.edu letting us know of your intent to complete the certificate, and that you have had your official transcript sent for review.
  3. Once your eligibility is confirmed, the Education Department will send you a link to formally register for the certificate and submit the one-time, non-refundable $100 registration fee.

All non-U.S. transcripts must be accompanied by a foreign transcript evaluation. The most basic evaluation is acceptable; there is no need for a class-by-class report.

Estimated Cost

Each course is priced individually, and you pay the course fee at the time of enrollment. The program has an estimated cost of $2,120 (not including course materials or one-time program registration fee). Course fees are subject to change.

Certificate and Award Request

Once you have completed the program coursework, notify UC Berkeley Extension that you have completed the curriculum and request your Award of Completion. Send an email to extension-education@berkeley.edu or call (510) 642-1172. After your records have been reviewed, verified and approved (usually within two to three weeks), your Award of Completion will be mailed to you.
