Berkeley Global
Examine processes that occur both within and outside ourselves as we interact with others in a complex social world. Some of the topics covered include social cognition, attitudes, impression formation, social influence, persuasion, conformity, obedience, stereotyping, prejudice, interpersonal attraction, prosocial behavior and aggression. Major goals of this course are threefold: (1) to critically examine social psychological theories and processes (2) within an empirical context and (3) to apply them to your life and to real-world events.
Learner Outcomes
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental social psychological concepts, theories, and research
- Critically assess social phenomenon based on empirical evidence
- Identify the significant role of cognition in social relations
- Analyze ways that social influence shapes your own and others’ behavior
- Recognize and evaluate interactions between self and society
- Utilize introspection, critical thinking, and multicultural awareness in recognizing human diversity.
