Focus on the paralegal's role in a family law practice. Learn about such topics as jurisdictional issues, child custody and visitation matters, child-support issues, property rights and division, and spousal-support considerations. You'll also cover issues of traditional marriage and alternative marriage, as well as paternity proceedings, adoption and surrogacy rights.
Prerequisites:
Essential Paralegal Studies Part I: Foundational Skills LAW X418 and Essential Paralegal Studies Part II: Authority, Research and Writing LAW X419, or equivalent

- Be introduced to concepts and procedures relevant to family law
- Understand the role of the paralegal in family law
- Learn about premarital agreements and cohabitation agreements
- Learn about annulments, divorce grounds and procedures, spousal support, property division and the separation agreement, child custody and child support
- Understand the legal rights of women, the status of children and adoption
- Learn about torts between family members (intrafamily torts)
