Course Objectives
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Understand and explain graphic design theory and practice.
- Apply visual thinking to information design composition.
- Use data visualizations to explain the story behind the numbers.
- Hand-draw a set of info-spatial patterns, leading to a final drawing.
- Recognize the archetypal patterns that emerge from mapping information.
What You Learn
Students who complete the class will be able to add to their résumés as technical writers the following skills:
- Creation of Excel-based visual explanations for business analytics
- Basic proficiency in Tableau and other web-based data visualization programs
- Working with a document design team to determine design decisions that increase audience learning
- Visual mapping of data sets in order to answer questions posed by the data collected
- Bringing industry-standard information design practices to the creation of project documentation of all kinds
