Examine the history and traditions of career technical education (CTE) and its impact on contemporary CTE programs and the economy of California. Develop a professional perspective by examining contemporary education policies and teaching practices in relation to fundamental issues, theories and research in education.
Prerequisites:
Early Orientation EDUC X366.13 or consent of instructor and program director

Course Objectives
- Identify the relationship of historical, legal, social, political, ethical and economic perspectives of career technical education to education and society
- Understand the importance of partnerships for work-based learning activities
- Learn the importance of developing program advisory committees in order to maintain curricular currency
- Understand student recruitment, placement and guidance services and the roles such services can play for students
- Coordinate the use of related community organizations and agencies to improve or enhance instruction
- Establish, supervise and advise career technical student leadership organizations
- Model professional standards and ethical behaviors including the appropriate use of student labor, school equipment, supplies and facilities
- Maintain student competence and attendance records
- Recognize the legal and ethical requirements to identify and report suspected cases of child abuse, neglect or sexual harassment
- Recognize the legal and ethical requirement to implement school and district policies and state and federal law in responding to inappropriate or violent student behavior
