Health Careers Seminar I

Delivery Options Online

Explore and learn about a variety of health-related careers, the requirements necessary to apply to most health professional schools, and how these should inform your course plan and extracurricular activities. Get an orientation to the Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions Program and assistance in planning your course of study.

At the end of the course, you will create an academic and career plan for your chosen profession. After successful completion of the course, you will be eligible for a free 30-minute advising session to discuss your career path and receive advice on how to become a competitive health professional school applicant.

This course is open to the public. Public students will develop a plan toward their chosen health profession during their time with us. Students accepted into the Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions Program must complete this course before they can officially gain access to future advising sessions.

Instructional Types

Live Online
Live Online courses provide an interactive learning experience with scheduled synchronous online sessions held via Zoom video conferencing (Pacific Time). Learn more about the Live Online format.
Online, Start Anytime
Continuous enrollment course begins when you enroll. You have a minimum of 90 days and a maximum of 180 days to complete the course.
Online, Fixed Date
Enroll in this course by its start date and complete it by its specified end date. There are no live sessions, but plenty of opportunities to collaborate with your classmates and instructor.
Classroom
Take classes in-person at one of our buildings or partner locations.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

All of our courses are taught in English. If English is not your first language, please use the following test scores as guides in order to be successful:

  • TOEFL: 90
  • IELTS Academic Format: 7
  • DAAD: C1
  • TEM-4 or TEM-8: Level 70
  • Duolingo: 125

Pauline Alnajjar

Pauline Alnajjar, MA, with more than 10 years of experience in higher education and advising received her Master’s in Education with an emphasis in School Counseling from CSU Stanislaus. Mrs. Alnajjar is passionate about higher education and creating a helpful environment to foster student success.

 

Monica GuhaMajumdar

Monica GuhaMajumdar, Ph.D., is the Student Academic Advisor for Extension's Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions Program. Dr. GuhaMajumdar completed her Bachelor’s degree from Presidency College, India and received her Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Biology from Michigan State University where she worked on chloroplast DNA mutations of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. She continued working with mutations in chloroplast DNA and photosynthesis in the Silicon Valley biotech industry as a postdoctoral researcher. Dr. GuhaMajumdar was a Professor and Chair in the Department of Natural Sciences at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA where she was associated with the Post Baccalaureate Health Sciences and Pre-Nursing Programs. She has a strong interest in student success and is passionate about creating career opportunities for students in health care related fields.

The continuing education unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized means to document participation in organized non-credit continuing education. One CEU is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in organized continuing education under qualified instruction. The CEU provides a vehicle for employers, professional groups, and licensing agencies to account for participation in non-credit seminars, workshops, and courses.
