General Biology II

Learn fundamental concepts in biology, including prokaryotes; protists; fungi and plant development, form and function; population genetics; ecology; conservation; the origin of life; evolution; and classification. Designed for biology majors and premedical and prehealth students, this course is also appropriate for returning students interested in a refresher biology class and professionals in other disciplines considering a career change to the biological sciences. This course is associated with General Biology Laboratory II INTEGBI X15.1B. Lecture and laboratory courses do not need to be taken concurrently.

Prerequisites:

One year of high school chemistry is recommended.

Instructional Types

Live Online
Live Online courses provide an interactive learning experience with scheduled synchronous online sessions held via Zoom video conferencing (Pacific Time). Learn more about the Live Online format.
Online, Start Anytime
Continuous enrollment course begins when you enroll. You have a minimum of 90 days and a maximum of 180 days to complete the course.
Online, Fixed Date
Enroll in this course by its start date and complete it by its specified end date. There are no live sessions, but plenty of opportunities to collaborate with your classmates and instructor.
Classroom
Take classes in-person at one of our buildings or partner locations.

All of our courses are taught in English. If English is not your first language, please use the following test scores as guides in order to be successful:

Ying Liu

 

Ying Liu, Ph.D., is a biology instructor at City College of San Francisco. Dr. Liu received a Master’s degree in Plant Molecular Biology from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. degree in Genetics and Developmental Biology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. She has done post-doctoral research in the areas of developmental biology and stem cell biology at UCSD, Salk Institute, Vanderbilt University, UCLA as well as University of Dundee in Scotland, UK. Since moving to the bay area, she has been teaching general biology, microbiology, human biology, cell biology, developmental biology and genetics at CCSF, Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) and UC Berkeley Extension. She is teaching and developing both classroom and online courses at CCSF.
